This was a very interesting article Dr J and reaffirmed to me what an awesome human you are.
My kids have always known I will talk straight about sex, rather than give mystical answers like “finding babies under a gooseberry bush”. One mum at primary school wasn’t keen when my youngest explained that after carrying a baby in her tummy, it leaves the woman’s body via the vagina — she hadn’t wanted quite so much reality for her child. My children appreciated knowing the facts, and being able to talk to me about more adult topics. I found it’s good to tackle these subjects while you & the questioner are busying yourselves with something hands on, then there isn’t too much eye contact.
Nowadays, when they know that I write about sex and socialise in a very sex positive environment, my two tease me, saying “Don’t ask Mum about that, she’ll give you too much information!”
I like your condom jar idea, wish I’d thought of that! I would love to advise my daughter on a good, body safe vibrator, but at the moment that would make her cringe.
