Not really. My requests for writing stuff have been in the line of "more from these characters" type of thing. Content warning can help, plus the tags and where you publish your story - on Redemption magazine I can go very dark because that is what the readers are expecting.

On the upside, at least the criticism and the berating was in a private message, it is much worse if it is in a public arena and others join into the "ding-dong" with their negative opinions.

Chalk it up to experience and move on - not everyone will like what you write, just stick to the social rules you live by.
