…I write “erotica for people who hate erotica.” Another said “you write smut like it’s a love poem.” A critic’s otherwise positive review of one of the stories startled me when it said that my writing style might come as a shock to erotica fans: I hadn’t intended for it to be that way. But my frame of reference for erotica is mostly books from fifty years ago. One of my favorite collections is closer to a hundred years old. Another one is older than the Declaration of Independence. Calling my brand of smut “retro” may be an understatement.
