I've been an editor for about 2 years on Tantalising Tales, a publication that promotes Fiction

(oh no - the last pick on Medium's netball team)

and sometimes erotic content

(brushed under the carpet by Medium, except that there are a LOT of readers wanting sizzling content)

I do not feel there is recognition of several communities within Medium. My editorial team and I support our writers -beta reading to trying to help them improve their craft and also assisting the promotion of their stories.

We have no expectation of our work being 'boosted' or 'recommended' but at least the current (about to become old) 'sorting' of topics/tags allowed us to be visible as trending.
